HUGOTON - Blain Stump, 50, lost his long and very difficult fight with COVID-19 on February 9, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born to Gabriele (Polischensky) and Blain Stump, Jr. on October 6, 1970 in Stuttgart, Germany. \n \nBlain was a military brat, growing up in Germany, West Virginia, California, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and finally, landing in Kansas where he met Kara Jean Powell. They were united in marriage on March 27, 1999 at the Sublette United Methodist Church.\n \nBlain and Kara moved to Hugoton after he took a position with the Stevens County Sheriff Department. Hugoton quickly became their home; the place where they grew as a family and raised their girls.\n \nBlain enjoyed hunting, fishing, food, family, and friends. He believed in you work for what you want in life. He was a hard worker, maybe a little stubborn, but also kind, caring, witty, sarcastic, and loved big. Blain was a faithful life-long Dallas Cowboys fan.\n \nIn 2018, Blain, Kara, and Blain's brother, Brian, opened Stumpy's restaurant in Hugoton. He was passionate about offering quality food to his customers and was constantly learning new techniques for food preparation. He loved his customers as much as they loved his food.\n \nBlain was proudest of his two girls. He loved supporting them through all their activities. When the girls were active in 4-H he became the ultimate show-dad, never missing an event and constantly coaching them to greater achievements. Brecklyn and Jayla have many memories of their dad two-stepping with their mom in the kitchen. They learned from him a definite set of expectations on life and love, setting the bar high for any man who wanted to win their hearts.\n \nHe is survived by his wife, Kara; daughters, Brecklyn Stump of Sublette, and Jayla Stump, and boyfriend Nick Gold, of Wichita; his mother, Gabriele Onofre, and step-father Robert, of Hugoton; step-mother, Janelle Stump of St. Paul, NE; mother-in-law, Donna Powell of Sublette; brothers, Michael Stump, and wife Bambi, of Verdigris, OK, Lawrence Stump of Broken Bow, NE, Brian Onofre of Hugoton; a sister, Sabrina Harders, and husband Bill, of Wood River, NE, sister-in-law, Nikki Russell and husband Courtney of Plano, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, as well as, all his treasured friends and staff at Stumpy's.\n \nHe is preceded in death by his father, Blain Stump, Jr.; and father-in-law, Wes Powell.\n \nFuneral Service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 13th, at the First Christian Church of Hugoton, Kansas with Pastor Cory Clark officiating. Interment will be at the Haskell County Cemetery following the service. \n \nIt is preferred that masks be worn at the service.
