Donnie C. Musgrove, 86, died on Friday, November 20, 2020, at Stevens County Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1934 to Rev J.B. and Ruby (Hayes) Musgrove just outside of Woodston, Kansas. \n\nDonnie's family moved a lot when he was a young, and by the end of grade school they had landed in Ashland, Ks. He was a star athlete for Ashland High School and set many records in basketball and track. He was their star shooter, setting scoring records that lasted for nearly 15 years. He also ran track and was especially proficient in the pole vault. \n\nWhile in high school, Donnie worked for a man named Chelles Gifford. He worked cattle, learned to break horses, and put up hay. After high school graduation, Donnie went to work in an auto body shop and began a career which lasted for over 30 years. During that time, he became a father to three boys: Brad, Brian and Brice. In 1982 he moved to Canon City, CO from Meade, KS to own and operate a large liquor store. Donnie once said that it was the hardest, but most rewarding, job he ever had. A few years later, he fulfilled his life-long dream of running a golf course when he became manager of the Canon City Country Club. Donnie's love of the game of golf developed during his younger years when he would play after school. During those years he won many tournaments and developed a passion which became a profession later in life. After retiring from the golf course, he worked for an electrical wholesaler and then an electrical contractor, managing inventory and supply orders for the electricians. \n\nDonnie's family remembers him as being a prolific practical joker! If there was an ornery gleam in his eyes, he was probably up to something! Donnie had a great sense of humor, was always quick with a comeback, and loved to tease and joke. Those who knew him in the towns he lived in regarded him as the King of practical jokers.\n\nIn recent years Donnie moved to Hugoton to be closer to Brad and Colleen. Moving wasn't easy because he truly loved Canon City, but with time, he adjusted. Later, he had to make adjustments again when Pioneer Manor became his home. \n\nSurvivors include his sons, Brad Musgrove and wife Colleen of Hugoton, KS, Brice Musgrove and wife Nalan of Waukee, IA, Brian Musgrove and wife Bobbi of Houston, TX; a brother, Roger Musgrove of Meade, KS; and eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. \n\nHe is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.\n\nCremation was entrusted to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Sublette.
