Lakin, Kansas

Edmund F. (Frank) Guy, 95, died Monday, February 27, 2023 at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. He was born July 9, 1927 to Edmund F. and Odel (Jones) Guy in Syracuse, Kansas.

At the age of 17 (1945), Frank joined the Navy and served in Okinawa, Japan during WW II. With the end of the war, he was discharged in 1946 and transitioned back to civilian life by enrolling at Garden City Junior College. Frank spent two years as a member of the college's first football team and said that the helmets of that era could be folded and placed in one's back pocket.

On July 11, 1949 Frank married Wilma R. Ochs. They had five children --  Dan, Steven, Edmund (Eddie), Marsha, and Thomas. Dan and Marilyn (Hein) reside in Forsyth, MO; Steven and Debbie (Knoll) live in Holcomb, KS; Eddie passed away on Sept. 3, 2018; Eddie's wife Juanita (Vigil) resides in Evans Colorado; Marsha Austin and Rick live in Rio Rancho, NM; and Thomas calls Lyons, Colorado his home. In addition to his 4 surviving children, he is survived by 12 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

In 1973 Frank and Wilma divorced. In 1974, while working on the Alaska pipeline, he met and married Ella Evans of Rampart, Alaska. Ella passed away in 1994. On December 22, 1999 he married Lorene Bradfield of Dodge City, KS. Lorene passed away in 2004. In 2015 Frank met Marie Fletcher of Leoti, KS. Marie became a dear friend and frequent companion at many country western dances throughout the area.

Frank was involved in numerous occupations throughout his life including water well drilling, oil well drilling, irrigation sprinkler sales and construction, working on the Alaska pipe line from 1969 to it’s completion in 1978, car sales, real estate sales, and truck driving. He worked and lived in more than seven states. Around 2003 Frank moved back to Southwest Kansas and had residences in Dodge City, Garden City, and Lakin. One might say he had a long and interesting life.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, his step father Robert Rickman, his brother Delbert, his half brother Gary Rickman, 1 son, and 3 wives.
