Francis Adna Van Etten, 94, died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his home in Sublette, Kansas. He was born July 25, 1927 to Sarah Dollie (Richardson) and Clyde Van Etten in Bluff City, Kansas. Francis proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He married Glendolyn Lou (Avery) on November 6, 1949, in Anthony, Kansas.\n\nOpen arms and heart are two things you'll hear again and again when family and friends remember Francis. His life was defined by service to his country, devotion to his wife, and love for his five children and his grandchildren. Francis was known to friends and family as the guy who could fix anything. If it was broken, you took it to him knowing full well that when it was returned it would work perfectly. \n\nFor over forty years, Francis worked as a skilled welder for Geis Irrigation which later became T & L Irrigation. He also worked on the half mile-long elevator in Hutchinson before moving to Sublette in 1966. He was an avid fisherman who loved traveling in their RV, camping, and getting to know anyone who came by to chat. Francis also enjoyed creating beautiful stained-glass pieces. He was famous for his chocolate chip pancakes; when Grandpa made pancakes, the house filled up with kids of all ages. He will be greatly missed by his family.\n\nHe is survived by his wife of 72 years, Glendolyn Van Etten of the home; children, Karen Bailey of Sublette, KS, Kerry Van Etten and wife Nancy of Fort Scott, KS, Randy Van Etten of Sublette, KS, Lenny Van Etten and wife Juanita of Sublette, KS, and Klonda Pemberton and husband Bill of Sublette, KS; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Dollie Van Etten; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Antonio Garcia and Bailey Ritter; and brothers, Wilbur, Beryle, Eldon Van Etten.\n\nThere will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place.\n\nMemorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, at the Sublette Southern Baptist Church, 901 Lark Avenue, Sublette, KS 67877 with Pastor Dave Erwin officiating. Internment will be at the Haskell County Cemetery immediately following the service.\n\nMemorial contributions can be made payable to the Sublette American Legion Post #205 in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, KS 67877.
