Harvey Sylvester Wendel, Jr., 64, died on Friday, September 24, 2021 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on September 29, 1956 to Edith (Kelsey) and Harvey Sylvester Wendel, Sr., in Fredericksburg, Texas. He married Charlotte Elaine (Russell) on July 1, 1978 in Garden City, Kansas.\n\nHarvey worked for many years at the Lee Richardson Zoo as an elephant trainer and in zoo maintenance. \n\nHe is survived by his wife, Charlotte Wendel; daughters, Tara Wendel, Candice Rodriguez and husband, Jose, Katina Eichhorn and husband, Anthony, all of Garden City, KS; a son, Lucas Wendel and wife, Jennifer, of Stockton, MO; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Butts of Mineral City, OH; a brother, John Wendel and wife, Shirley, of Heyburn, ID; a step-brother, David Kuehn, and step-sister, Judy Harris, both of Garden City.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Wendel and Edith and William Kuehn; a daughter, Silvia Cook; a sister, Genny Raye; a brother-in-law, Roger Butts; and a step-brother, Richard Kuehn.\n\nThere will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
