Janet Sue Powell, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. She was born to parents Bert and Alberta Powell in Coffeyville, KS on June 19, 1944.\n\nJanet's family, including her older sister Saundra Koochel (Powell), moved to Liberal, KS in 1948. Her younger brother Doug, was born the following year.\n\nShe was a graduate of Liberal High School in 1962. Janet was a member of the Liberal High School band and The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a Masonic youth service organization. She was baptized in the Disciples of Christ Church (the First Christian Church) of Liberal. KS.\n\nAfter high school graduation, she continued her education at Fort Hays State University, earning a major in Home Economics and minoring in Art. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and graduated in 1966. Her design sense, drawing abilities and attention to detail landed her a job with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, MO. She was employed at Hallmark for 35 years and retired in 2001.\n\nJanet remained in the Kansas City area after retirement and relocated to Frisco, TX in 2014. Living in a Del Webb retirement community there, she developed new social connections and enjoyed playing Mahjong and Bocce Ball, both favorite competitive pastimes. She was active in the conservative coalition of Texas and was very involved in her neighborhood social Committee. She loved attending Stonebriar Church in Frisco where Chuck Swindoll serves in the pulpit. Janet passed away in her home after suffering a heart attack. She will be missed not only by her family, but also many friends in her community.\n\nJanet is survived by her two siblings, Saundra K. Koochel (Powell) of Liberal, KS and Douglas H. Powell of Tucson, AZ. In addition, she was the beloved aunt to three nieces and one nephew. Her family also extends to fifteen great nieces and nephews.\n\nCremation was entrusted to Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Sublette. She will be honored by her family this coming summer at a private graveside service in Liberal, Kansas.
