Larry Gail Wright, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born September 7, 1942 to Marquerite Dean (Cagle) and Novell Lafayette Wright in Knox City, Texas. He spent his childhood and most of his adult life in Texas. Later, Larry moved to Sublette, KS to be closer to his sister and her family. In 2001 he made the move to ResCare Assisted Living in Liberal, Kansas.\n\nLarry was an avid collector of many things. He had a great knowledge of plants and enjoyed gardening. He was especially challenged by those that were hard to grow in a cooler climate. He would write about his daily happenings in journals since his early twenties; thus, with these journals, Larry leaves behind all his memories in book form. He always had a camera around his neck snapping pictures of his friends and family whether they were ready or not! He followed the weather closely and knew the precise upcoming temperatures or if potential storms should be expected. Watching sports was a favorite pastime and he could quote the scores from games his favorite teams played the previous week. Larry was a friendly man who never met a stranger and enjoyed being with his family. \n\nLarry was a member of the Sublette United Methodist Church. \n\nHe is survived by his brothers, Rodney Wright and wife Kitty of Abilene, TX, and Arlis Wright and wife Terri of Abilene, TX; sisters, Beverly Hall and husband Pete of Sublette, KS, and Tammya Pettay of Grand Junction, CO; fourteen nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents.\n\nThere is no visitation as cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced for a later date at Elmwood Memorial Park of Abilene, Texas.\n\nMemorial contributions can be made payable to Special Olympics Kansas Inc. in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, Ks 67877.
