Edwin LeRoy "Lee" Stapleton, 85, died peacefully Tuesday morning December, 7, 2021 at the Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas. He was born December 30, 1935 to Sarah Ruth (Schmidt) and Harold Dawson Stapleton on the family homestead near Sublette, Kansas.\n\nLee graduated from Sublette High School in 1954 and attended Bethany Nazarene College where he met Joyce Marie Teas. They were married June 10, 1955 at the Church of the Nazarene in Lovington, New Mexico. Lee finished his education at Oklahoma State University and returned to the farm south of Sublette to work with his father raising cattle, wheat and corn.\n\nIn 1994 he retired from farming and moved briefly to Edmond, Oklahoma so Joyce could pursue her degree in psychology; then on to Garden City, Kansas where he worked on his golf game and made beautiful jewelry for his family.\n\nHe was a member of the Western Kansas Community Foundation Board, the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the Lions Club.\n\nLee was always a positive, encouraging, uplifting person. He loved his family dearly and will be sorely missed.\n\nHe is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Stapleton of Satanta, KS; daughter, Donna White of Sublette, KS; son, Steven Stapleton and wife Vickie of Sapulpa, OK; grandchildren, Steffanie McAllister and husband Mark of Sublette, KS, Ryan White of Lawrence, KS, Jason Stapleton and wife Nancy of Scottsdale, AZ, Kristin Penner and husband Johnny of Sublette, KS, Aaron Stapleton and wife Jenna of Dallas, TX, and Sarah Stapleton of Overland Park, KS; great-grandchildren, Alex, Rylee, Preston, Mallory, Campbell, Gage, Levi, Jaxson, Hailey, Morgan, Colin, Ragan, Eden, and Elliott; and nieces, Tamra Brandes of Olathe, KS, and Tricia Brandes of Folsom, CA.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Sarah Stapleton; sister, Sandra Brandes; son-in-law, Michael White; and a nephew, Bradley Brandes.\n\nMemorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11 at the Sublette Church of the Nazarene.\n\nSuggested memorial contributions can be made payable to the Western Kansas Community Foundation or the Sublette Church of the Nazarene Youth in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, KS 67877.
