Manuel Gonzalez

Manuel Jesus Gonzalez Vargas, 67, of Sublette, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Satanta District Hospital in Satanta, Kansas. He was born on June 10, 1959, in Cuahtémoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Moncerrat Gonzalez and Francisca Vargas.

Manuel married Luz Elva Macias, and together they were blessed with three sons. In the 1980s, they moved to Sublette, Kansas, where they made their home and raised their family.

Manuel enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was known to spontaneously break into song. He could often be found working on projects in his backyard, where he enjoyed building, fixing, and creating things with his hands. Having worked in agriculture-related industries for 45 years, Manuel was a familiar face throughout the farming community. In fact, some farmers affectionately called him “Brown Jesus,” a nod to his big beard and his seemingly miraculous ability to fix just about anything.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Luz Gonzalez of Sublette, KS; three sons, Moncerratt “Monce” Gonzalez of Sublette, KS, Jose Gonzalez and wife Claire Miller of Kansas City, MO, and Danny Gonzalez and wife Nallely of Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren, Natalya Gonzalez of Ulysses, KS, Michael Gonzalez, Arthur Gonzalez, and Javier Valdez of Midland, TX; siblings, Avigael Gonzalez, Vicky Macias, Isidro Gonzalez, Martin Gonzalez, Blanca Solano, and Jesus Maria Gonzalez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moncerrat and Francisca Gonzalez; and a brother, Moncerrat Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Sublette, Kansas. A Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Satanta, Kansas.

Additional visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and continuing until the Funeral Mass at 3:00 p.m., with Father Esteban Hernandez officiating. Interment will take place at Panteón Llanos de San Bautista in Bajío de Abajo, Chihuahua, Mexico.
