SUBLETTE - Ronald Edward Bailey, 75, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Garden Valley Retirement Village of Garden City, Kansas. He was born on October 25, 1944 to Marjorie Frances (Walters) and Andrew William Bailey in Liberal, Kansas. He married Cecilia Kay Minyen on January 19, 1966; they later divorced. Ron graduated from Sublette High School in 1963, served in the U.S. Army and worked for many years as a Natural Gas Transmission Operator for Enron. He married Karen Sue (Van Etten) Miller on December 27, 2003.\n\nSince his youth Ron loved animals. He had a way of taming wild animals such as Vick, the coyote, and Moe, the crow, into pets. He could hand feed a raccoon and even, a skunk! Growing up with his brothers, Ron was an entertaining storyteller and had an infectious laugh. As an adult he became an avid gardener. As the younger of Ron's two children, Ronda remembers spending days preparing the soil before they would plant the many vegetables. She also has fond memories of homemade ice cream! Ron would continue making homemade ice cream for his two granddaughters, who he loved and treasured. His son, Roger, remembers trips to Lake Texhoma to to go fishing. Ron had an intense work ethic which he learned at an early age. He was known for rarely taking a sick day. He enjoyed traveling; in addition to annual family vacations to Colorado when the kids were growing up, he took cruises and a trip to the Panama Canal and Figi. Ron was stationed in Germany while serving in the U.S. Army. During this time he was able to take side trips all over Europe. A love of football was continuous throughout his life, first playing for Sublette High School then as a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and was thrilled to see them win the Super Bowl last season.\n\nRon is survived by his wife, Karen Bailey of Sublette; a son, Roger Bailey of Basehor, KS; a daughter Ronda Bailey, of Wichita, KS; two step-daughters, Angela Brooks of Sublette, and Tammy Miller of Sublette, a step-son, Jeremy Miller and wife Kim of Louisville, KY, two granddaughters, Amanda Erickson and husband Josh of Eureka, Montana, and Denisse Martinez and fiance Chase of Wichita; step-grandchildren, Preston Brooks and companion Brook Schneider of Littleton, CO, Brandon Stokes and wife Eryn of Sublette, Dalton Brooks of Sublette, Kyle Stokes of Norman, OK, Kieara Stokes of Sublette, and Kayde Brooks of Sublette, four step-great grandchildren, and his brothers, James Bailey and Darlene of Northglen, CO, Jery Bailey and wife Jane of Sublette, and Royce Bailey and Kathy of Dodge City.\n\nHe is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Kevin Bailey.\n\nA private family service will be held to honor his life with inurnment at Haskell County Cemetery.
