Wayne DeCamp, a lifelong resident of Hugoton, quietly passed away on August 24, 2021 at the age of 101. \n\nWayne was born on January 17, 1920 to Clarissa and Bill DeCamp on the homestead in Stevens County, Kansas. As a young man, he served in the US Army in the South Pacific during WWII. Returning home, he married Shirley (Fulkerson) on May 6, 1945 at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton, Kansas. Their union was blessed with six children.\n\nHe will forever be cherished by his wife of 76 years, Shirley, and children Eileen Gregg, Linda (Berne) Ceilley, and Bill (Carolyn) DeCamp. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, close family members, and all who knew him.\n\nHe is preceded in death by three children, Darlene, Shirley Ann, and John; his parents, sister, brother and their spouses.\n \nWayne and Shirley loved dancing to the rhythm of the big bands that were popular in the 1940's. Their other love was to Jeep in the mountains of Colorado and exploring the different states in the union. He had a passion for modifying cars and taking them to car shows, winning numerous awards. Wayne was often found in his shop because of his passion for inventing unique machines, gadgets, and contraptions. He was fascinated with solving challenging projects.\n \nWayne will be laid to rest with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25th at the Hugoton Cemetery. \n\nSuggested memorial contributions can be made payable to Pheasant Heaven Charities in care of Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 1200, Sublette, KS 67877.
